Garden Glimpse

Why is it that my most favorite flower lasts only a short time? The smell is so intoxicating and I really do have to stop...and smell the peonies. I've gotten over the fact though, that if I stop to long, the ants will let me know I need to move on. Ants tickle toes. And if the right kind of ant....they bite also. But when mother nature sees that we need rain, and she thinks we should get it all in less then 15 minutes, I can almost always bet my beautiful peonies are gone, or half holding on for one final glance from their favorite admirer. Then the petals fall to the ground and I swear I hear them saying..."See you next year".

I guess if they lasted all summer long that maybe I wouldn't enjoy them so much. They are like my flowering crap trees. Bloom for such a short time that you make sure to pay attention when they are here. So this got me thinking. Do the other plants and flowers that are here all summer long and into the fall get as much attention. Probably not. Which is sad if you think about it. All God's creation deserves equal attention no matter how long or how short of a season it has. So I decided to give my other flowers the same attention and show them off as well. INTRODUCING.....Taaa-daaaa! Marigolds.
This flower is beautiful in its own right. Its sturdy and the one thing I like best...the deer don't like them. They may not have the best fragrance and probably aren't to many peoples favorite, but everyone seems to plant marigolds. I think it's due to the sturdiness and the length of growing time. Takes a few good frosts to hurt this hardy plant and it seems to become stronger when a downpour arrives, as if saying "Bring it on mother nature". So from now on I'll stop and take notice of more then just my favorite flowers. But I can't promise I'll get to close to smell some of them.
